“Cartoons have served man for years, removing the façade and laying bare the gut issues.

“Within these pages are portrayed, with an incisiveness unique inherently to the cartoon, the many experiences of Black people who have been the guinea pigs for the many ‘Integration experiments’ throughout the years. Mr. Floyd has, with his wry humor, begun the slow process of removing the veils that have obscured the real problem, and it is revealed in a manner that will not pass away easily from the reader’s mind.

“Because of the insight offered by these cartoons, this book will probably become a basic primer for Whites who were interested in promoting Black-White harmony.”

- William Douglas, Ph.D.

Integration is a Bitch is an unusual and inspiring book. Tom Floyd has taken the pain and difficulty of many years of work experience and translated them into print. You cannot read this literary work without laughter nor without pain if you are Black, or wonder, if you are White and guilty of the kinds of ignorance, prejudice, and misunderstanding that have made for Mr. Floyd’s Integration is a Bitch.

“There are many books on the market these days that deal with the difficulty of a Black man in industry. None of these have been able to tell in print alone what Tom Floyd has done by combining pictures and print. Because we’ve been told time and again that getting a job, a white-collar job, will bring job satisfaction, we have not understood our unhappiness while in these jobs. The fact is that the lack of understanding generated by the White industrial structure limits, if not destroys, the motivation and growth of the Black man.

“This book is important; it should be carefully read. Read it once and retain the humor; read it a second time and attempt to understand what Mr. Floyd is saying. It is to the credit of the publishers that they had the courage to publish a book that departs so significantly from standard techniques of written material. Mr. Floyd’s work is new, unusual and necessary.

“If industry has any real intent to hire, motivate, and retain qualified Black persons, they had better take a serious look at Tom Floyd’s work.”
